Purpose: To provide a quick and accurate measure of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder.

 

Description: The DTS is a 17-item self-report scale used at initial evaluation, evaluation of psychopathology in trauma victims, evaluation of effectiveness of treatment and prediction of treatment success. The items cover areas of accident, combat, sexual, criminal assault, natural disaster, torture, burns, loss of property, near death experiences and bereavement trauma. It provides subscale scores as well as severity and frequency of a trauma in addition to a total score. It evaluates the distress of the individual to a particular event and how much distress this event has given the individual in the past week.

 

Comment: The DTS has shown good test-retest reliability and split-half reliability, as well as good internal consistency, concurrent, constructive and predictive validity.
